  2. What??? I thought Columbus discovered America. I guess I was wrong. I've never heard of Leif Erikson, but I know about Zheng He and didn't know he reached the Americas. I wonder what others will have to say about this Columbus controversy.

  6. The Columbian Exchange was the exchange of plants, animals, and goods between the East and the West that his voyages sparked. Columbus enslaved many Indians after they gave him many crops, food, etc.

  7. I hope that we could retrace time and make Columbus sink or "mysteriously" die. He made kids work on his ship and lied to us about him being the first to visit the Americas. I wonder why the Native Americans welcomed them warmly? That would probably a lie too the Native Americans may have hated them and tried fighting so Columbus took their food and resources as a gift to himself.

    1. If it weren't for columbus, America could still be a wild place with modern native americans. Sure he wasnt the first to step foot in America, but he did make his "discovery" count towards something big

  8. The Columbian Exchange was the trade of animals, plants, and goods between the East and the West. Columbus also enslaved many Indians after he discovered their tribes. Columbus was the one behind all of this. A number of settlers lobbied against him at the Spanish court, and in 1500, the king and the queen sent him and his brothers. So, Columbus might not have been the first person to sail the ocean blue in 1492.

  9. The Columbian Exchange is a broad term for the trading of plants, animal, and goods between European explorers and Native Americans. It had many benefits to the European explorers such as the attainment of many goods and riches. Unfortunately for the Native Americans Columbus enforced an iron discipline which led to the exportation of many natives to be sold as slaves and others to be slaughtered when they tried to regain their freedom. In addition to all this the Europeans brought with them diseases that had a massive effect on the population that would last for generations.

    1. Also, i never knew how cruel Columbus was. Credit should be given to Zeng He, not Columbus. Columbus also killed off many native Americans, just so he could occupy the land.

    2. Zheng He didn't discover america before native americans were on it. They were already there when he discovered america

  11. In my opinion, it wasn't fair that Columbus had treated the American Indians unfairly after they gave him all those crops and other things.

  12. Historians have used the phrase “Columbian exchange” to describe the trade of plants, animals, disease and goods between the East and West. The Columbian exchange impacted the social and culture of both sides of the Atlantic. Advancements in agricultural production, warfare, and education are a few examples of the effect of the Columbian Exchange on both Europeans and Native Americans.

  13. Crops such as white potatoes, avocado, corn, tomato, and peanuts came to Europe, Africa, and Asia from America during the Colombian exchange. Sugar cane, bananas, grapes, citrus fruits, and turnips went to America from Europe, Africa, and Asia. However, not only produce exchanged back and forth. Diseases like smallpox, influenza, malaria, and many more arrived to America.

    1. You have many examples of items that were exchanged. You should go a little more in depth of the result of people coming to the Americas

  14. Columbus isn't the hero we thought he was. We should thank Erikson or Zheng He for the discovery. Addioninally, he enslaved natives and was brutal in colony rule. He deserved to be jailed. Iwouldn't be surprised if he was executed

    1. One more difference between them and Columbus is that they did not hurt people.

  15. When Columbus reached America, he thought it was India. The reason being is that he originally wanted to go to India to get spices, silk, and other exotic goods. That was the reason he called the Native Americans, Indians. Also, when the Native Americans showed hospitality, all he thought about was that he wanted to enslave. Which was cruel and horrible of him.

  16. Columbus is the perfect example of a person who people should not look up to. Although he gained many things and sort of discovered America, he was a mean and rude person. The Columbian Exchange was the exchange of plants, animals, and goods between the Native Americans and the Europeans. Columbus enslaved the Indians even though they were very friendly and peaceful with him. Columbus was a very mean and bad person and not someone to look up to.

  17. WOW i always thought that Columbus had discovered America. its weird that Zheng He didn't know that he reached America. when the Columbus exchange happened, i thought that he was a little too harsh on them since he took advantage of the Indians by letting them take care of him and gave him all the resources that he needed but then he stole all the goods and gold from them. He also enslaved them and used them for help on his ship or to do his orders.

  18. The Colombian exchange was after a period of time in which the Americas were documented on paper by Columbus. In this period of time, plants, animals, diseases and technology was traded and soon transformed European and Native American ways of life. Some of the items that were traded from america to other parts of the world were tobacco, sweet potatoes and peanuts. Items that were transferred from Europe and Africa to America were grapes, bananas, and sugar canes. The exchange lasted through the years of expansion and discovery. The Colombian Exchange created cultural diffusion in which people exchanged ideas and religions so people became more open to the world. As a result of this, many people converted and new religions arose.

  19. The Colombian exchange was mainly a broad term for trading between the Native Americans and the Europeans, they mainly traded foods, plants, and many goods. This gave many benefits for the Europeans especially the goods, however, for the Native Americans they were put on an iron discipline. This basically made the Native Americans slaves that people could buy and use. The Europeans also spread a disease on many of the Native Americans which affected them for the rest of their lives in the basis in population.

  20. I cant believe that Columbus didn't discover America. He is a fraud, and Zheng He or Leif Erickson should get the credit, or even the Native Americans. I wonder if people even before the Native Americans. Columbus shouldn't have got any money from the Queen and he shouldn't have have been called a hero in textbooks. He treated the Native Indians badly and took their resources. He also took them as prisoners and many committed suicide. Columbus shouldn't be considered a hero he should be considered a villein.

  21. The Columbian Exchange is the exchange of animals, plants, and goods between the East and the West. Columbus enslaved the Indians even after they gave him food and goods. Columbus enslaved and tortured many of the Indians after discovering their tribes, even though they gave him food and goods. because of Columbus, many Indians were killed. in 1500, some settlers reported his cruelty to the king and queen. this resulted in them sending a royal administrator to bring Columbus and his brothers home.

  22. I think this information was a good review for you all. You learned in fifth grade that there were other explorers who had reached the Americas as well. I recognize that we didn't have much time to write detailed summaries for this post. For your next posts, I will expect all of you to write complete, detailed paragraphs with in-text citations of page numbers, authors, etc.
